Why is Power of Attorney Apostille Required?

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document giving one person the authority to act on another's behalf for financial, legal, or business affairs. When establishing business divisions, managing foreign assets, or carrying out transactions abroad, Hague Convention member countries require a POA Apostille from the MEA to recognize the validity of the legal delegation.

Process of POA Apostille

Commercial and legal documents must undergo strict notary checks and Chamber of Commerce (for business documents) checks before final MEA validation:

• Chamber of Commerce: Mandatory validation level for all business and commercial documents.
• Notary & Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM): The legal department validates the signatures on personal legal documents.
• Ministry of External Affairs (MEA): The final authority that stamps and attaches the unique registration Apostille sticker.

Required Documents

• Original notarized Power of Attorney / Commercial Invoice.
• Passport Copy of the principal applicant (Front & Back).
• Passport Copy of the attorney holder / witness details (if requested).
