What is a Single Status Certificate?

A Single Status Certificate (also referred to as a Bachelorhood Certificate or Cenobacy Certificate) is an official affidavit proving that a person is currently unmarried, single, divorced, or widowed. Foreign countries require this document before registering a marriage with a foreign national to prevent illegal polygamy.

Process of Single Status Certificate Apostille

The legalization steps involve Notary, local SDM checks, and final MEA Apostille stamping:

• Local Notary Court Stamping: An affidavit is drafted by a legal representative and attested by the local court notary.
• Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) / Home Department: The district magistrate signs and validates the legal status affidavit.
• Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Apostille: The MEA places the official holographic Apostille sticker, certifying the bachelorhood status internationally.
